The history of the tattoo

This weekend I headed down to the Horniman museum to attend a lecture by Matt Hodder on the history of the tattoo. This was part of the museum lates weekend - where participating museums in the capital open late (or all night) for various events.
Matt's talk charted the history of tattooing as an artistic practice in Europe and America. Beginning in naval and religious communities in the 16th and 17th century, its trend setting period with wealthy aristocrats in the 19th century and its seeming ubiquity at the beginning of the 21st. He focused on tattoos as an art form, considering the role of tattoo artists, and examined developments in form, genre, style and technology. He presented a unique art historical perspective on a method of art making which has been misunderstood for so long.
He is currently working on a book which I have no doubt will be a fascinating read. Watch this space.......

Warner Bros Studio Tour London

Bea kindly bought us tickets to the Warner Bros studio tour.
It is the most amazing chance to go behind the scenes of the Harry Potter films and see the breathtakingly detailed sets, stunning costumes, props and animatronics. I am not particulary a Harry Potter fan - Ive read one of the books to see what all the fuss was about and I have seen some of the movies but it wouldnt have mattered if I hadn't. I was totally in awe at the amount of work involved in all the different aspects and am so inspired. Out came the sketch book.....

Last night...

....We headed down to the launch of Arcam by Joel Clifford at the Orange Dot gallery.
The exhibition had a great new concept - interactive visual exhibition .. Attendees are asked to scan QR codes beneath artwork to put a sound to the imagery created by the artist himself . We loved the clean screen printed images and the whole concept of the exhibition.

Movies above London.

Last night we headed off to a screening of the lovely film' Up' on top of Telegraph Hill, run by Electric pedals. We packed our biggest jumpers, blankets and a picnic basket full of toastie nibbles to eat to keep us warm.
The film was powered by man power. Everyone came with their bikes in tow, ready to cycle away, generating the energy to power the outdoor cinema with every spin of their wheel.
A beautiful night up in the sky with London below us. What a way to lift your spirits.

So many birthdays..

We love the look on a friends face when you go all out and make them a stupidly ridiculous cake-  This time a rainbow sponge cake with marshmallow and icing topping! Fun to make- even better to eat!

We are getting ready to launch our new Hand-cut Hen party invitation service on our website this weekend/the beginning of next week and we are very excited!
The mood boards are up and we have started designing-Think Mexican fiesta's, long summer nights partying and girls rocking classy pastels...

Baking sunday

Nothing beats a day in your apron baking something delicious for your friends to tuck into with a cuppa. Today was all about baking bizarre cakes and indulging in something that looks as exciting as it tastes.
On the menu- a very big Rainbow cake and Earl Grey and ginger cupcakes topped with lemon zest and a bit of mad freestyle icing...

Festival time is coming..

This year my main festival is Farm Festival!
Farm festival started in 2006 when a small group of friends native to Somerset hosted an intimate, cost-effective festival for their friends as an alternative to the events dominating the English Summer.
Each year it has grown and this year it is set to be a biggy, with amazing bands and 4000 people capacity.

This year is also very special and close to my heart as it sees a new main stage, named after My beautiful boyfriend and best ever friend, musical director and eternal Farmfest legend, Gavin Harry (1983-2011- we miss you everyday)

Bespoke Wedding Invites

We got to be as creative as we liked with my wedding invitations.
I am getting married this summer on the Isle of Wight so we decided to personalise the invites accordingly.
Each invite consisted of a screen printed wooden invitation (to tie in with the reception being held in a boat shed on the beach), pastel coloured information pages and a luggage label to give the wedding gift info.
Our rsvps were made from old postcards of the Isle of Wight.
All held together in a little canvas bag printed with a T&R Isle of Wight stamp (Tess & Robin).
We had so much fun making them and had such lovely responses from the people we sent them to.
If you are inspired and would like us to make your wedding invitations - just get in touch.
We would be happy to create something bespoke for you.
Have a look at our website - www.she-me.com.

Pondering Post

On my way to work this morning I walked past a lady who kissed her letter before posting it in a letter-box. It made me wonder where her post was going and who to? A love letter? Perhaps a loved one she hasn't seen in a while, or maybe it was an application to something and she was wishing it luck.
This week in particular (birthday week) I have had lots of post through our letter-box and it is always a joy to come home and find cards and (nice) mail on the doorstep to greet you.

This gorgeous little box arrived for me today.

He really is too nice to eat, but I am sure I will succumb and have him with a cup of tea later.
